  The "Big Bet" Update

Matt Killingsworth introducing the Big Bet at National ConventionWow, over 560 red Delta Chi poker chips where handed out by Delta Chi's Director of Chapter Services, Matt Killingsworth (Kansas State '2002) at the 2006 Convention in Cleveland, Ohio. Matt has promised for every chip brought back to the 2008 Las Vegas Convention by a registered attendee from the Cleveland Convention, a $10 donation will be made. Both the Educational Foundation andPoker chip that was handed out to each attendee at the Cleveland Convention the Fraternity will each receive half. Matt has requested that the money raised be used for Delta Chi’s Leadership College and “A”s’ Academy. That same night, Greg Hauser (Past 'AA' ) matched Matt's generosity and challenged others to do the same. Currently, several Alumni have agreed and the "Big Bet" as it is known is off and going strong.

Gordon L. Gailey, SMU   38

The Dallas/Fort Worth Musician   Died of natural causes July 12, 2007 in Sun Lakes, Arizona.   As a professional musician, he performed extensively with national and regional's bands during the Big Band era.  Served in the US Army in Europe during WWII.    

   
 

Otto O. Schnellbacher, Kansas ’45

Otto Schnellbacher, who was  one of Kansas’ first All-America  football players, went on to play pro football and basketball.
Otto Schnellbacher passed away on March 10, 2008, who was one of Kansas’ first All-America football players 1947, went on to play pro football and basketball.

Twice, Brother Schnellbacher was chosen all-conference in football. In basketball, he was a four-time all-league performer.  He started his hoop career in 1942 and played for Phog Allen’s Big Six champion team of 1943, when his student life was put on hold to serve in World War II.  

Upon his return, Schnellbacher was all-conference three more times in basketball and played for another conference title team in 1946.

In 1949, he also suited up for the Providence Steamrollers and St. Louis Bombers of the Basketball Association of America, the forerunner to the NBA.

He became one of the Jayhawks’ first professional football stars, playing four years in New York. For the first two years, he played for the Yankees of the All-America Football Conference.  His final two seasons were played with the Giants of the NFL. As a defensive back, he recorded 11 interceptions in a season twice, including his All-NFL season of 1951. He was chosen All-Pro in 1950 and 1951 and shared the defensive backfield with future Cowboys coaching legend Tom Landry.

He’s a member of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame, the University of Kansas Hall of Fame and the football Ring of Honor inside Memorial Stadium andwas a longtime Topeka Kansas resident who worked in the insurance industry.
