Brother Donald La Plante recently began his service to The Delta Chi Educational Foundation. He is currently serving on the Executive Committee as Secretary of the Foundation.  He was elected in October 2009 to a three-year term on the Board of Directors after having been appointed earlier in the year to fill a vacancy on the Board.  He joined the Executive Committee in June as Member at Large.  He began his service to the Foundation in 2008 as Parliamentarian.
 

On the International Fraternity level, Brother La Plante has served as Parliamentarian and advisor to the Law Committee for the Delta Chi Fraternity since 2007.  He was appointed to that position following twelve years of service as a member and chairman of the Delta Chi Law Committee from 1995-2007.  He was a member of the Fraternity's Board of Regents, representing Region II from 1991-1995.  From 1983 to 1991, he served as a member and chairman of the Delta Chi Law Committee. He currently serves, and numerous times over the years has served, as a Vice Regent for Region II.
 

On the local level, Brother La Plante has been an advisor to the Southern California Chapter since April 1980, serving at various times as "BB", Alumni Board President, Housing Corporation President and Chapter Conservator.  He served as Alumni Board President for the UCLA Colony in the 1990's. He also has served as Treasurer of the Los Angeles Alumni Chapter for over 20 years and was the chapter "A" in 1990.  He was a faculty initiate of the Southern California Chapter on January 30, 1981.  He has attended 14 International Conventions, every one since his initiation.
 

 

Professionally, Brother La Plante is a teacher of English and history at Northview Intermediate School in Duarte, California.  He has received two Continuing Service Awards from the PTA for his service to the school.  He currently in his fourth year as President of the Duarte Unified Education Association, the union representing the district's 200 teachers.  He previously served as Treasurer for six years and Secretary for four years.
 

 

Brother La Plante has served his community as a member of the Board of Education of the Downey Unified School District since December 1979.  He has been elected to eight terms by the community.  The district has over 22,000 students and 110,000 residents.  He has served as President of the Board five times.  In 2007, he was honored by his colleagues and the district for his service by the naming of the new science building at his alma mater, Warren High School, as "Donald E. La Plante Hall."
 

 

In other school board related service, he served as President of the Los Angeles County School Trustees Association in 1997-1998 and continues to serve on the Association's Executive Board as a Past President.  He also has served on the Delegate Assembly of the California School Boards Association for 25 years and has been parliamentarian for the Delegate Assembly meetings for the past ten years.
 

  Brother La Plante graduated from the University of Southern California in 1976 with a degree in journalism and political science.  He received his teaching credential from California State University Long Beach and his master's degree in educational administration from Point Loma Nazarene University.
