This distinguished honor is designated for those applicants who excel in theiracademic endeavors, and who demonstrate outstanding leadership within their chapters and communities.   

Chosen for their outstanding academic records and demonstrated leadership, these men definitely "lead by example."


 

Eric Van Aelstyn

Southern California
"With Distinction"

Van Aelstyn, a senior from Seattle, carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.61 on a 4.0 scale. He majors in Film Production with a minor in Business.

The Southern California Campus was greatly influenced by Van Aelstyn’s work as Executive Vice President for the Interfraternity Council. He served as the Chapter President, Vice President and Social Committee Chair. In the summer of 2008, Van Aelstyn led his chapter during an extensive house remodeling. The chapter also became the 2nd highest fundraiser among the USC Greek community by participating in the Relay for Life and raising more than $4,000 for the American Cancer Society.

Erlandson, a senior, carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.4 on a 4.0 scale. He majors in Civil Engineering and has received the University of Alberta Academic Excellence Scholarship, the Edwards, Edwards and McEwen Architectural Scholarship and the WS Ziegler Dean of Engineering Entrance Scholarship.

Erlandson has donated his time and talent as the Treasurer for the Interfraternity Council.

He has already received the Marge Lee Outstanding “C” Award and been chosen as the Big & Little Brother of the Year for 2007.  In addition, Erlandson has served as Treasurer, Secretary and Social Chair for the Alberta Chapter


 

Nicholas Garstka

"With Distinction"

Garstka, a senior, is a quality leader academically as he carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.886. He majors in Mathematics and consistently appeared on the Dean’s List and President’s List at Trine.

Garstka plays tennis at a very competitive level and was usually the team’s #2 singles player and #2 doubles player during his career at Trine.

Nick served as the Chapter President, Chapter Treasurer, Associate Member Counselor, Recruitment Chair and Sports Chair. His roles led to increases in recruiting, funds raised for philanthropy and a surplus for the chapter’s bottom line.


 

Jacob Hensel

Marshall

Hensel is a senior and carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.72. He majors in Sports management/Marketing and was named to the Dean’s List at Marshall for three consecutive years.

Hensel’s work on campus was outstanding while he served as the President of Marshall’s Officials’ Association in 2009.

He served as the Chapter Secretary, Chapter Treasurer and Social Chairman. His roles led to increases in recruiting, funds raised for philanthropy and a surplus for the chapter’s bottom line.

"With Distinction"

Hinton is a junior from Dacula, GA and carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.51 on a 4.0 scale. He is majoring in Finance and plans to attend law school at either Emory or the University of Georgia.

Hinton served as Senate Chairman, Senate Parliamentarian and a Senator for the Student Government Association. He participated as the Grand Chairman, Vice Chairman and Delegate for the Greek Council and also served as a student Ambassador.

He served as the Chapter President, Associate Member Counselor and Recruitment Chairman. His roles led to increases in recruiting and truly helped to resurrect a chapter that had fallen on hard times.


 

Michael Kendall

"With Distinction"

Kendall, a senior from Fort Pierre, SD, carries a cumulative grade point average of 3.6 on a 4.0 scale. He majored in both Business Economics and Spanish.

Kendall took on many campus leadership roles, especially within the student senate. He has been Vice President, a senator and the finance committee chair for the group. He founded the SDSU Collegiate Bowling team, worked with the Chicanos In Action group and also the International Relations Club.

Kendall’s served as the Chapter President, Vice President, Regional Leadership Coordinator and Associate Member Counselor.
