| 2009 HS SENIOR SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO TWO CHAPTERS FOR THE SUMMER |
| Both the Troy State Chapter and the Washburn Colony have been awarded the opportunity to use the Foundation's High School Senior Scholarship Program for the upcoming summer. Each will work towards providing incoming male freshman attending their respective schools, an application for a $1000 scholarship. The award will help promote Delta Chi on their campus, and in turn, provide some positive public relations for the organization. In working the applications to see who is qualified to receive the scholarship, each chapter or colony has the ability to learn and rush all applicants. Last year, the Louisiana State Chapter received 72 applications that they used during the summer to promote their rush names list while providing highly outstanding young men the opportunity to learn about Delta Chi. To learn more about this program please visit the H.S. Senior Scholarship section of our website. |

| IDAHO CHAPTER HOUSING UPDATE |
Moscow, Idaho
One of the most successful fundraising campaigns that The Delta Chi Educational Foundation has been a part of is the recent completion of the remodeling of the chapter house at the University of Idaho. Alumni Board of Trustees President Jesse Uhlorn told the DCEF that the chapter's rededication ceremony, held this past October, tops off seven years of fundraising and reconstruction.
The rededication ceremony also gave alumni a chance to meet undergrads and to reminisce.
"One goal we had was to get some cross-generational contact. That was there and I think it was a very positive experience for everybody who was there," said Uhlorn.
He added that it wasn't an easy project to get started.
"The ball got rolling for the project while I was still an undergrad in 2001. The full-on campaign was launched in the summer of 2003. Since that time, we have had pledged gifts of $315,000. So far we've received $229,000 of that."
The total cost of the improvements to the house was nearly $1 million and the Alumni Housing Board took out a mortgage to secure the funds. Uhlorn said that the group will continue to fundraise and service the debt through rents.
|
"The upgrades to the house were very positive and we have seen that in the quality and number of pledges. We have 26 new guys this year."
The original house was built on the campus in Moscow in 1926. It is one of the most unique houses on campus and has a lot of character.
"We are extremely proud of the house. We wanted to get a modern update to everything without compromising the original look. I think we have accomplished that." Uhlorn added.
Those who would like to continue to help with fundraising for the reconstruction efforts can do so through the Idaho's D-CHI account in cooperation with the DCEF. |
